    Hi there!

I am ultra new to the site (and new to wordpress/web design in general!) I'll give a little info about my site and/or my intentions:

    - I'm working with theme 2011 (I'm not using a child theme. Is it necessary? If so, how do I create one?)
    - My site is currently "under construction"
    - I have social media widgets in the sidebar, but how can style be added to the sidebar widgets - ie encase the widgets in a box/border, make the dimensions of the widgets the same size and change the fonts
    - How can social media icons be added above the header? Is it possible to add a google search above the icons?
-How can I change the fonts of the name of the site? What about the tagline?
-I'm using a plugin (Jetpack) for my social media sharing, but it enables the share button to be below the posts. How can i get it above the posts?
    -
I trust you guys will be kind with your response (please!)

    Thanks in advance

Everything that you want to do can be done in the 2011 theme BUT it will need significant coding to get what you want. As a result you will have to modify core theme files, these modifications will be lost should the theme be updated that is the reason for using a child theme.

My advice would be to go for another theme that allows what you want by configuration without the editing of files. One such theme that I am familiar with is Suffusion, it is one of the most popular free themes.

    Hi colinsp:

Thank you for your reply. You said that Suffusion will enable me to do the said requests, but will my settings (ie plugins, sidebar widgets) also be saved? Suffusion sounds like a good option. Also, where can I find Suffusion?

    Thanking you in advance,
    Alex

If your widgets behave properly they will be transferred across to whichever theme you use.

Just go to your dashboard select themes and new theme and search for Suffusion ;)

Thanks Colin. I just installed it, and I feel like a kid in a candy store. I'll work through it accordingly.

    Thanks again!:)

Again, thanks for your help earlier Colin.

Though able to sort through a bit, I have some concerns I've been trying to resolve, to no avail.

    - How do you "successfully" change the colour of the menu tabs? (currently default colour)
    - How do you change the sharing plugin position? (I have Jetpack, and it's below the post; I'd like it above the post)
    - How do you change the tag-line fonts? It seems to be stuck in capital letters, though haven't typed them in as such
    - How do you add social media icons (squares) above the header?
    - How to add social media icons (shaped like squares) in neat groups of four in sidebar? [I tried to use the "follow me" widget, but of the ones on offer (and selected), only one - twitter - shows up] Currently, just have the icons (different sizes) in one widget; one on top of the other)

    Thanks in advance!

I suggest that you search the Suffusion Support Forum as all these questions have been asked and answered there.

A quick pointer before you do that in the Suffusion Options if you want to change anything from default you have to click the Custom radio button usually right at the top of the page for the element you wish to change.

Thanks for the pointer. I posed some questions there earlier, but yet to hear back. I 'll fool around with the settings more.

    Thanks again.
