Basically my main HDD is about to fail. I'm going to buy an 80GB 7200rpm 8Mb Cache ATA 133Mbps Calypso Maxtor IDE HDD to replace my main HDD.

Once It is installed properly, how do I actually start partitioning it? I want to divide the 80gigs into two drives (40/40). Does installing a fresh copy of Windows XP, then going into disc management to partition work?

Thanks

You will want to do your formatting and partitioning using the WinXP install CD. Just set your system to boot from the CD and follow the instructions. This will be done before you actually install Windows.

Most hard drives will have a disk utility available for download at their website. You can set up the partitions before installing windows if you want.
