thanks for any help you can provide.

i updated to the newest version of opera browser and now some of the websites i visit do not load or fully load. examples are ebay, startpage, facebook and i even tried to use opera to do a search here on techguy and the search page would only load partially, so i am using Iron browser. i really love Opera and don't want to use another browser but it is frustrating that some sites are not working. i went to Opera forums and i see others are having this problem but others are not. strange.... so far i have not seen any fix and the mods are not offering any advise. so i have come to the brainiacs on techguy.

i have had troubles in the past and looking back, Phantom010 asked me to download a program called hijackthis and run a scan and post the results. i have done this and these are the results:

another comment:

it seems to be sort of hit and miss. yahoo.com, for example, will sometimes load, sometimes not. right now is a not...

I can't help with your problem I'm afraid, but I have also noticed glitches with Opera 10.50 and 10.51. In my case they take the form of failing to load some graphics properly and occasional 'freezes'.

I am looking around the Opera Community and Support pages to see if I can find any information.

hey togg,

i have been trying to find info on the opera forum too. it seems as if many others are having problems but from what i can find, moderators are keeping on the down-low there regarding this issue. i have always had good luck here on techguy, so i thought i would post here and see if anyone could help, which would NOT be you... (shakes fist in toggs direction...) ~wink~

Sorry about that!!

Like you, I have been very happy with Opera for many years and am reluctant to switch unless there's no choice. I have been using Firefox on the odd occasion that Opera has refused to render a page properly.

lol~

i was pretty excited at first about the new opera update. i love the look of the browser and it is very fast. but i keep finding more and more pages that will not load. even this page will try to load one last 'element' but never get it, which is fine. at least i can see everything.

i have not used FF in a long time. it used to be my browser of choice before Opera. currently i am using Iron which is a rip off of the google browser, Chrome. might have to check out FF again. i remember having problems with it and that is why i went searching for something else and found Opera.

why oh why has my Opera failed me...??? :( (cue violins)

Apparently there's a beta of 10.52 circulating so I've got my fingers (and toes) crossed that that will correct the problems. It all started to go downhill for me when I had to click around in 10.50 to get the Menu bar to show up! It seems they hid it because of requests from netbook users to free up more screen space.

I hope they don't start taking notice of requests from mobile phone users!!

i saw a post about the beta version and i googled it and could do a torrent download but i am unsure what torrent is and if it would have anything that would damage my computer on it.

i find it strange that opera has not acknowledged that there is a problem. if they can 'fix' the browser for netbook users then they could fix it for us old school notebook and PC users. maybe they don't love us anymore.

i did update my firefox and will try to get used to it again. all my faves, bookmarks and saved passwords are on opera. god! i sound like such a whiner! i need to take heed of the wise words you have posted from Lord Balfour.

let me know if you do the beta version and how it goes for you.

As I understood it they were just providing more 'screen real estate' (how's that for geek speak?) for net book users by hiding the menu bar, not 'fixing' any other problems with the 10.50 family of browsers.

I don't know anything about torrents either but I doubt that they work very well with dialup connections. I definitely won't be trying any beta versions. They are only for people with test machines which can easily be recovered if the new software breaks them, or for 'virtual' systems (and I don't know much about them either!).
