Newly built computer says no signal

My son just built his computer and it says no signal on the monitor. We don’t know what could be the problem. Maybe somethings not plugged in correctly? The manual does not do a good job of explaining.

Please list the make and model of all the components, motherboard, cpu, ram, graphics card, power supply and monitor. Provide as much detail as possible for all of them please.

Thanks, might need more detail later but ok for now.

Are you correctly connecting the Graphics card to the monitor and not the motherboard's DVI socket ? If that's ok what type of cable are you using ?

Make sure all power connectors are connected. This includes the 24-pin ATX power connector and P4 or AUX or ATX12V.

Double check front panel connections for the power switch. There is no requirement which is positive, so what matter is you are using the correct connections. Refer to the labels on the motherboard.

Connect the display cable to the graphics card that you installed and not to the (usually) silver rectangle panel they called an IO Shield. There is a difference with Ryzen builds especially with Ryzen 5 1600.

I recommend build computers outside their case to make sure all components are properly connected. Memory is usually not connected correctly because of people don't want to be a little aggressive pressing firmly on the memory module. The graphics card is the same too because there is a clip that locks the graphics card in place, so press firmly with a bit of aggression. These two areas will either provide a loud click or soft click.

The power supply is close to being under powered, so you should have selected a 500 watt or 600 watt.

Have you read the guide at the top of the forum for problem builds? If not, do so. If you follow ALL of the steps, you will find the cause of your no POST condition.

Common errors for new builders;
1 The 4/8/12pin aux pw connector not plugged in
2 Motherboard shorting to case due to incorrect placement of standoffs OR not very common however it does happen; builder does not use standoffs and screws board directly to case
3 Part not seated correctly ie ram, video card, etc
4 Cooler or heatsink fan not installed correctly. More of an intel problem than an amd problem since the stock amd coolers are pretty much idiot proof. The intel coolers can be a pain for a new builder. Once you do a few, no problem however the first one or two can be difficult to get fully seated

Noticed in the picture that several screws are missing from the holes that you bolt the motherboard to the case, need to check and make sure you don't have any stand-offs in the wrong place under the board shorting things out, the cases may or may not come with some of the stand-offs screwed in, it is your responsibility that they match up with the mounting holes in the board. The Manual expects that you already know how to build a computer and only has info per the particular motherboard. There are some You-tube videos you can watch
