When Microsoft released their beta antispy program, it was understood that it would be free for the time being as it was being developed/tested. Now it looks like it may be free permanently.

Microsoft's generosity has always been tied tightly to anticompetitive practices when it comes to software. Just musing over why this decision was made, I note that there isn't an antispy/antiadware program that is more than about 85% effective. Smaller companies may be able to get away with selling a program with that low an effectiveness rate; but, more than likely, MS realizes that because of their status in the industry, the market will hold them to a higher standard--and maybe a higher standard isn't possible against adware/spyware, seeing they are at least as well organized as the New York crime syndicate.

Anyway, I guess it is better to have another free tool than not to have it.
