NIC stopped working after OS upgrade

I've got an Onboard NIC SIS 900 pci fast ethernet adapter. It was running fine in windows 98se. I upgraded to winxp professional. The adapter installed fine. and shows its running ok in the device manager. The prob is that the system tray shows the network cable is unplugged. I tried ipconfig and it says media unplugged. Anyone have a clue how to fix this without buying a new NIC? It was working fine in win98se.

are you sure you have the latest drivers?

thanks for the suggestion. The driver I am using is the internal windows XP driver. dated 2001. The driver at SIS seems to be generic lan driver. Also it is 10.6 megs. I would have to burn it onto a CD to get it installed into the affected computer. Not sure if a generic driver is what I need.

Even SIS's oldest listed driver file is newer than the Win2k one you are looking at, and the oldest one is only 741K....AND Win2k compatible.

I put another NIC into the puter to be able to get online, then downloaded the driver you suggested, and it worked, thanks mucho
