Ok I was at a friends last night to install a gfx card for them in their Dell Dimension 3100 (1x PCI-E).

Now I uninstalled the onboard drivers, shut down the PC, put in the new card, powered up went in to BIOS to disable on board, but the options were ON or AUTO, so I left it at Auto.

Get in to windows with the display still coming out of the on board card.

Found new hardware appears, all normal, cancel it and install from the disk by running setup.

All going well, installing drivers, please wait.

Try numerous different ways of installing the GFX with the same result.

Tried it in another machine, identical Dell Dimension 3100 and same thing.

Found lots of people with different models of machine on the Dell forums, with the same issue, but no fix stated that seems to work.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I am guessing it is Memory related, but with it happening in 2 different machines I cant see it being faulty system RAM.

Is it some setting I can disable?

    OS is XP Pro
