Almost every day, the audio on my computer will suddenly stop working. Not all of the audio. My AIM still makes those stupid noises. However, Window's media player won't play, and youtube videos make no sound. When this happens, if I try to open the volume control, I get this error.

At this point, I restart my computer, and it works again.

What in the hell is going on?

I also have the same problem. Except the last time I rebooted, Windows installed 14 updates and now I have no sound, no volume control icon or popup window... Nothin'

Download the Realteck AC97 audio driver free from the website. If this does not work, check for Windows updates.

The audio driver didn't work, and I don't want to do Windows Update because it tends to make other programs not work. However, I have found the cause. The audio works before I receive this message, but not after.
