My add and remove program is gone in the control panel. When I click to open it nothing happens. My pc has been messed up for awhile and the last time I posted a msg for help in Dec no one responded. Please help me figure out this mess. Thank you. Here's my HJT file.

Have you considered a third party uninstaller?
2 good ones are RevoUninstaller and AbsoluteUninstaller(my favorite).
May not answer your question, but there are alternatives.

    Hello,

    Go to Start => Run and type in "appwiz.cpl" {without the quotes}
Does the Add or Remove Programs applet open?

If it doesn't - see below

If it does open, open the Registry Editor (Start => Run and type in "regedit" {without the quotes})
    Navigate to this key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Control Panel
    don't load

Look in the right-hand pane for an entry named 'appwiz.cpl'
If it's there, right-click on it and Delete it.
Try the control Panel again - the Add or Remove applet may be listed at the bottom, so right-click in Control Panel and 'Sort by Name'.

    If appwiz.cpl doesn't open, go to C:\Windows\System32
Do you see the file appwiz.cpl?

I don't know what a third party uninstaller is or what it does.
I've had a lot of probs with the computer lately. It seems to hang up when going to a site. I think have a virus, worm or spyware.

A third party uninstaller like the 2 that I named are just like Windows Add/Remove, only better because they remove all traces of the program or application.
If you suspect an infection, you should click on Report and ask to be moved to the malware section.

OK. Did it open when you ran appwiz.cpl in the Run box?
Either way, I've attached a copy of the file. Unzip it and copy it to C:\Windows\System32

It did open when I typed in the appwiz.cpl. I'm sorry I mis-read your msg about going into the "C:\Windows\System32 Do you see the file appwiz.cpl?" I did that and the appwiz.cpl is there.
I'll wait to hear from you again. Remember that I'm fairly new at this and am confused. But when I click add /remove in the control panel it opens now.

I had to put a new power supply in my pc last week and now when I go into a search engine it ALWAYS reads "this site may harm your computer". When I go into a site it then reads WARNING...visiting this site may harm your computer! This happens with both IE and Mozilla. I don't know if its that my pc is messed up or if the power supply had anything to do with it.
I have recently installed IE 8 (which was a huge mistake). How do I get it off here and install 7? What a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK. I take it that the Add/Remove applet now works in Control Panel.
For IE8, you can uninstall it and it should revert to your previous version. Just in case you're not sure, the instructions are here (just read the XP parts):

Also, I had a look at your log. Only experts are permittied to advise on malware removal, and hopefully one will be along soon. But if it were me, I would deal with these:

    C:\Program Files\iWin Games\iWinTrusted.exe

    O2 - BHO: IEHlprObj Class - {8CA5ED52-F3FB-4414-A105-2E3491156990} - C:\Program Files\iWin Games\iWinGamesHookIE.dll

    O23 - Service: iWinTrusted - iWin Inc. - C:\Program Files\iWin Games\iWinTrusted.exe

    Uninstall this program
And/or you can check the Fix box in HiJackThis
Or in Start => Run and type in msconfig
Uncheck these entries in Startup and Services

I removed all but the C:\Program Files\iWin Games\iWinTrusted.exe and I couldn't find that one. Thanks for the IE tip I'm now back to IE 7. Is there anything else you can see that should be fixed. I don't know how you guys do this...I'd go home and hang myself if I had to deal with ppl like me all the time. You Rock!

    Thanks.
For the HiJackThis log, as I say, we're not supposed to advise on removal, although the log itself is useful to show what starts and what's running. Can I suggest that you create a new log of your current condition and post it in the Malware/HiJackThis forum here:

    Good luck!
