My first slot is only like 2 inches long and is divided in two different slots. Is it AGP? Can I use it for a video card? I've been trying to install a ATI mach 64 pci card but everything seems to look worse. I just need 32bit true color. I'm running an older pentium III 550mHz. Thanks for the help.

Well Im not an expert but there are some mini pci slots and then there are the agp slots, those are the smallest ones. The black long ones are pci or isa. If your ati card is pci its obviously not gonna work with an agp slot beccause it doesnt fit. If your trying to find out if your motherboard has an agp slot you can check your motherboards manual or you can just go to the website of your manufacturer of the pc or the retailer those being for example sony dell gateway etc.

Try to find out what type of motherboard you have.

You said you have a P3 system, so I doubt you have an agp slot but who knows.

Sounds like its a CNR slot. Do you know the make and model of the motherboard.

    but just to be clear

PCI slots have always been white
ISA slots have always been black

I believe the advice up above was find out the brand and model and go to the vendors website (support area) and see what your card supports.

if this brown slot is set back from the back edge of the mobo about 2 inches and is the top slot its most likely AGP. but i'm curious about something here

sounds like you've installed it a pci or agp slot already and things just aren't setup correctly - drivers? got the newest ones and installed?

That card you are using is fairly old, the Mach 64 I had long ago would only do 24 bit @ 800 x 600. You also need to install the correct ATI drivers to get any colors or resolution above 16 @ 640 x 480.
