What's the model name and model number of your Acer laptop?

Is it running Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit?

-------------------------------------------------------

Go to Control Panel - Device Manager.

What's listed in Sound Video And Game Controllers?

Are there any entries in the Device Manager with a ? or ! next to them?

If there is no Sound Video And Game Controllers entry in the Device Manager, that means your computer isn't detecting a sound device in it.

There are no entries with a ? or ! next to them?

--------------------------------------------------------

Go here and click one of the "Download @ MajorGeeks" links to download and save
Realtek High Definition Audio 2.66(6.0.1.6482)

Go here and click one of the "Download @ MajorGeeks" links to download and save
Realtek AC'97 Audio 6.305(6.0.1.6305)

After both files have been downloaded and saved, close all open windows.

Double-click the first file to start the install process. Restart your computer if prompted to do so.

If the first file fails to install and detect the audio device, try the second file.

That laptop has Realtek audio, but it doesn't specify if its high definition or AC'97.

If both files fail to install and get the sound working, we can assume the sound device in that laptop is no longer working.
