I was on my computer when all of a sudden it rebooted and when it came on again there was a black screen that said 'no boot device found press any key to reboot the machine.' I tried to reboot it but this screen just comes up. I Have a Dell Inspiron 3537, I got it this year. The operating system is windows 8 but the computer also has classic shell. Is there anything I can do?

also, dell laptops have a built in diagnostic boot; with the power off, hold the fn button down and power the box on. That will enter into the diag boot, just follow the prompts.

that said, I"m betting that the hd died.

If you got it this year, is it possibly still under manufacturers warranty?

From what I can determine, the Dell Inspiron 15 3537 laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional, 32-bit or 64-bit.

Did yours come with Windows 8?

What's the "service tag" number on it?

It's my guess too the hard drive has died.

Its looking more and more likely that the hard drive has totally failed, I hope you have anything important backed up somewhere else?

Can you give us the Dell Service Tag number, it should be on a sticker, probably on the under side?

as Tanis said, that HD is most likely cooked. Please get the info they requested.

Also, if you are comfortable opening the case, I'd check to make sure the cables to and from the HD are connected tightly.

Here is the Dell support site that's assigned only to your Dell Inspiron 15 (3537) laptop.

According to its system configuration section, it shipped in March 2014 in South Africa and came with Windows 8.

It's under warranty until March 2015.
