What bios did he flash? The motherboard or did he try to update the cdrom?

When you say it doesn't work.......is it recognized in the bios setup? Does it appear in my computer? Does it appear in control panel/system/device manager? Any yellow exclamation marks there?

Sounds like the BIOS Flash may have FUBAR'd the motherboard.

Can he revert back to the old BIOS?

Has anyone tried resetting the default BIOS settings yet?
