I'm trying to fix my boss's computer at work. It's a Dell laptop running XP Pro. This all started because some of his files have disappeared and the error message we're getting is that they're not accessible or corrupt. So I tried to run chkdsk only it won't run when I reboot, nothing happens at all.
I'd like to know either how to get it to run, or to get it to release whatever lock it's put on the volume. There's a windows security update currently also trying to install and it won't, I suspect that has something to do with the pending chkdsk that won't run.
Help please. I'm ready to go get the hammer.
