I just completed a new install of Windows XP on a Dell Inspirion 1000 - FAT32. Everything is cool except that I have no audio device! Tried many different solutions to no avail. Could it be that I should have made the install NTFS instead of FAT32?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    THANKS!

    Hi and welcome to TSG.

It should not matter if the hard drive is FAT32 or NTFS formatted. The hardware drivers will be the same. Have you gone to the Dell support web site and downloaded drivers based on the computer's service tag number?

Hurray...it worked. Now how do I get the driver for the DVD player? The driver list at Dell is for a Sony, but mine is a Matshita!

    Thanks again!

Those drivers are basic to Windows so you do not have to worry about that. Is it not showing in My Computer or not working in any way?

My error! The DVD tries to open in Windows Media Player, which then gives me a warning saying a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on my computer.
