Hi,

The icon in my system trey shows that I am connected to the router so should be able to get an internet connection. Neither my Explorer or Firefox browsers load pages and I can not download updates for any programs. I currently have AVG 2011 and for some reason think it may be blocking my connection. I can not be sure though.

Does anybody have any ideas what the problem may be or what I could check?

Cheers
Paul

moved to networking forum

it may be blocking access -
There should be a setting where you can add your local network ip address range
only way to really know is disable or uninstall - we have to uninstall quite a few security suites here to get internet working
Use the removal tool
AVG Removal Tools
http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools

otherwise
1) Make and model of the router / modem
2) How are you connected to the router - by cable or wireless
3) what windows version do you have on the PC
4) Are any other PCs or devices connected and working OK
5) post back the following information

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and
control key + V to paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Ping Tests}
