    Hello,

Interesting issue....if I connect to a WEP encrypted network on this XP Pro laptop internet is no problem. If I connect to an open network, no internet at all... I can get into the router settings but not out to the net. Anyone have any idea?? I'm using the intel proset tool to manage wireless connections. Let me know if you need any further details. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Mike

very strange = you are taking all the codes off
    download and run
Free software to check signal strength of wireless is netstumbler 0.4.0 available for download from http://www.stumbler.net/

also could you post an IPCONFIG /ALL with wep and when open

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

    ONE ---------------------------------
    start
    run
    cmd
    ipconfig /all

    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
control key + V to paste

    TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

    IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

What type of Security sw do you have installed on the computer. Norton, Mcafee ...etc ?

If you have Norton Internet security you can reset the Firewall settings under program scan. If you have any other type of Secuirty sw that has a extra firewall disable it and see if you can connect.
