no network access

    just formated my computer and used a clean install of win xp allthought i have no network connection when i try to hit repair it says "failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection" so i went and checked the TCP/IP properties but they are both on obtain an auto obtain. any ideas?

    also when i write ipconfig in cmd all i get back is windows IP config. tried pinging the default gateway not getting any response says "destination host unreachable" only successfull ping i get from is 127.0.0.1
