I'm not an expert. Most games need you to have the CD in the drive to play, but is this usually purely for copyright purposes, or do games often need to actually grab info (besides music) from the disc?

It is possible to copy the game Cd to your harddrive, then play it from there. So I guess its for Copyright stuff.

I guess that makes sense.. so I can copy games to my drive then get a no CD crack and never have to stick a CD in there. Of course I'll need software to overcome the protection, but that's easy. Thanks!

You don't always need a crack though. There are several legit programs that let you keep a CD image on your PC and set up a virtual drive to fool the computer into thinking that the drive is actually there.
