No Sound from Headphones

my laptop sound is fine but when i plug in my headphones the sound is not transfered and still comes out of the laptop speakers, running vista home premium, on acer laptop
please help was working fine one min now its not

Can you change the settings in Control Panel/Sound/Speakers to enable the headphone socket ? I dont have a Vista laptop so am not 100% sure , but recall there's a setting somewhere in there . Also are there any Fn keys you can use to toggle sound between speakers and headphone jack ?
