Well I'll make a long story into a short one so I don't bore you guys.
I had Windows XP Media Center Edition, it died so I managed to get a windows XP Pro. CD from a friend, managed to wipe MCE and install pro. I have no sound. Well, aside from the stupid beep the computer makes when I try to do something I can't. My friend said to go into the device manager and to see if the drivers and such were working properly which they were. If I go into volume control I get an error thing that says, "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click add Hardware. This program will now close," I did that I couldn't find the mixer thing it was talking about.

Please help, I miss my music and it's just weird not having any sound. D:

Did U check to see of the correct drivers for multi-media were present.
I gave my copy of XP Pro(i'm trading up to Vista in the New Year with my next system) to a family member to try to get the sound working again after she installed XP home i haven't been able to get her motherboard sound to work either.Have learned from device manager that the hardware is present but not the MM driver necessary to have XP use the sound chip.A trip to the motherboard site wasn't much help either.Any thoughts, suggestions welcome

Try going into device manager and highlight audio sound controllers. click on properties>remove. then reboot the computer and let windows reinstall it.
Post back to let us know if this helps

When you install XP again, you need to also install the motherboard drivers as well and one of them would be onboard sound driver. What is the motherboard brand and model or is this a branded pc and if so model number?
