The sound on my husband's laptop went out suddenly a while back and I've been trying to troubleshoot the problem. He has a Toshiba Satellite A305D running Windows Vista Home Premium with Realtek High Definition Audio. I've obviously checked all of the volume controls to make sure they are on and turned up. I've also tried plugging in external speakers, but those don't work either. In the control panel under sound, it shows a green checkmark showing that the Realtek Digital Output is working. It also shows what appears to be a sound meter with green bars, and they do fluctuate when I try to play something, yet still no real sound. In the device manager, it shows that "This device is working properly." I've attempted to update the device driver, but when I do it states that the latest version is already installed. I've also gone into the setup utility and chose F9 to restore to the default settings.

    Any other suggestions?

(I've primarily used Mac computers for the last few years, so bear with me ;)
