hey guys, i've just repair/upgraded my OS to XP. and i found out that my built-in pc sound does not function anymore. i tried installing the driver i downloaded from the net and a window appeared that says:

    Cannot Install This Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)

an error occurred during the installation of the device

The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.

the driver i downloaded is Vinyl AC'97 A1u670b from google site.

Please, i need your expertise on this.
    thanks and more power!

Do you have an external or an onboard sound card ?
You need to get drivers specific to the sound card that you are using !!

Download SIW and run it on your machine.

I think it should tell you the make of your sound card ! then download the appropriate drivers from the makers site !

    all the best
