I've got an HP EliteBook 2540p laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro. A couple days ago everything worked just fine, and now for some strange reason, the thing won't produce any noise whatsoever, be it speakers, headphones, anything. It actually doesn't even recognize that any headphones are even plugged in. To make things even more confusing, I can have it play some music, and I'll watch the little volume indicator next to the default device in the sounds panel as it bounces around, and still nothing actually coming out.

    - Updated and restarted, check
    - Troubleshoot utility, check
    - Drivers all up to date, check
    - Volume levels fine and headphones working, check

Some help would be just amazing, thanks!

The HP EliteBook 2540p laptop has driver support for Windows XP and Windows Vista 32-bit/64-bit and Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit, but not for Windows 8.1 32-bit/64-bit.

It has an IDT High Definition Audio sound device.

The OS has been on that computer for several months now, and the audio only quit just a day or two ago. I don't think there would be a connection there...

I've never used Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, so I'm not familiar with what issues it may have.

According to the Microsoft Update Catalog site, these are the most current Windows 8.1 64-bit drivers for the IDT High Definition Audio device.

    6.10.6495.0 - 10/24/2013

    6.10.6496.0 - 11/07/2013
