I'm trying to fix a corrupted .dot file, but XP doesn't seem to let me delete normal.dot or save as normal.dot like 98 does.

I am on my friend's PC and any help will be appreciated.

Uh...word count.dot is not a Word file.
Go to your office STARTUP folder, Fred and move or delete that file. You cannot have Word running when you do that. Also make sure it's not still hanging out in your task list...

Oops. WinXP HIDES normal.dot, so you have to be viewing hidden and system files.

Go to explorer, hit Tools-Folder options, view tab to change those settings.
