norton and reboot

hello,
i need to reinstall windows 98 (dont ask )but my norton runs out soon,should i update norton first and if i do how will i get it back when i reboot,i have not got a disk i done upgrade overphone last time,or should i reboot then upgrade,
for anyone who rembers me i asked for help with my USB before,thats why i have to reboot to get my drivers back,i cant understand how i lost them but the only way i can get them back is a reboot,which i have been putting off,i hate doing it,but i cant use scanner or my new kodak camera untill i do,

If you format and reinstall windows from scratch and then install Norton, it will be good fot another year. This info is stored in the registry and the registry is deleted during a format. If you plan on reinstalling overtop of the current installation, then your programs will remain and you'll have to buy a new Norton or buy a subscription.
