NAV shows it needs "attention". Says NAV has encountered an internal program error with 3005,597. It directs me to Symantec for fix. All they say is to do a live update. Like it would be that simple! No luck when updating. I have live update scheduled daily. Any thoughts.

For that error message Symantec also suggest two further steps if LiveUpdate does not fix the problem, as detailed here
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...88256c3100739931?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

May be worth running another online virus scan in addition to Symantec's, to cross check for malware, e.g.

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
    http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

This is just a personal theory of mine but FWIW if I'm having problems with NAV I tend to disable automatic LiveUpdate and run it manually several times, rebooting after each run. Maybe just coincidental but sometimes it seems to have worked better after doing this. When (if) everything starts working again you can set it back to automatic.

Maybe post your HijackThis log also in this thread to be on the safe side!

I also had problems using automatic live update. I have it on but still check it manually cause it doesn't download everything. I receive updates automatically, then go to the site sometimes right after and there are client updates, or something else that do not automatically download.

Well it's good to know that manual LU isn't just a personal theory of mine! :D
Actually I think I did see some information somewhere exactly to that effect, that auto LU does not necessarily pick up all the available updates, but I can't remember where I saw that now. Also, I assume that if you have a dial-up connection and auto LU is trying to download updates with large file sizes in the background, unless you are dialled in for a fairly long session then you may never complete the updates in a given session and you go right back to square one at the next session - at least if you run it manually you can see where you are!

Use dial-up, never had a problem with long downloads. You might of read it hear a while ago cause someone else had the same problem and I instructed them also that auto update does not download everything.

I have cable so speed is not an issue. If I do a manual update, it has no effect. Do you think it wise to uninstall and reinstall. I have reservations doing this after reviewing the Symantic precautions. Help!!!
