Hi. My Norton Antivirus is no longer operating correctly and I suspect that a virus or something like that is to blame. My settings have been changed so that the auto-scan is off, and when I try to enable the auto-scan again, it will not work. Also the email scan says that there is an error. I cannot reach liveupdate anymore, and I cannot go to any symantec website. Although the rest of my internet works, any symantec website comes up as "action cancelled." The only thing that does seem to work on Norton is the full system scan, but when I scan, nothing shows up. Here's my logfile. Can you help me?

Please download and run the following programs.

    Download CWShredder

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Close all browser windows, open cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" and let it run.

Then restart your computer and post another log.

IMPORTANT! To help prevent this from happening again, you should install all the security patches and critical updates.

    AD-AWARE

    Go here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
    and download Ad-Aware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right-hand corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window: Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

    Restart your computer

Download and run: SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY, here:

    http://download.com.com/3000-2144-1...tml?tag=lst-0-1

Open Spybot Search & Destroy (Click Start, Programs, Spybot S&D (Advanced Mode). Click online, Search for updates, Download all available updates. Close all Browser windows, Click ''Check for Problems'', Put a check in every entry Spybot Search & Destroy flags with a red exclamation mark and click ''Fix Selected Problems'' , Then restart your computer.

Download both of these for added protection: SPYWAREBLASTER & SPYWAREGUARD, here:

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Once you've done all that post another Hijack This log please.

I did everything you said. Here is my HijackThis log. I already had SpyBot and AdAware on my computer, and I keep up-to-date on new downloads for Windows and Symantec, so i don't know what is wrong. I did download and run the cwshedder program from your reply and downloaded SpywareBlaster and activated all components. My Norton Antivirus is still not working. Also, when I restart my computer, a window pops up labeled something about C++. My windows task manager says that this program is called LUCOMS~1.EXE. It says that this file is not working: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec shared\ccEvtMgr.exe. Perhaps this might help you know what is messing with my computer?

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall LimeShop.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Updater Service] wmiprvsw.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Updater Service] wmiprvsa.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [System Updater Service] wmiprvsw.exe

    O8 - Extra context menu item: LimeShop Preferences - file://C:\Program Files\LimeShop\System\Temp\limeshop_script0.htm

    Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

First in safe mode click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Now find and delete:

    The C:\Program Files\LimeShop folder
    The C:Windows\System32\wmiprvsw.exe file
    The C:Windows\System32\wmiprvsa.exe file

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
    Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.

Go here and do an online virus scan:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.
