Okay, so a few years ago we bought Norton internet security for our PC, and also set up parental controls. It seemed to work fine, except that it took an age to load the controls at startup, and it actually damaged the performance of the pc quite significantly. We kept with it for a few years, but now that kids are older, and we have other software (AVG and ZonealarmsPRO), we were looking to get rid of it. It had started saying that our subscription had expired a few weeks before, which prompted us to look for new options.

When I finally came round to removing it, I logged onto the "supervisors" account and tried to remove it. Oh dear. It seems I didnt have supervisor access anymore. I tried on all the accounts on our PC, without any luck. So does this mean that its stuck on our PC forever? Do we need to re-subscribe before we can remove this software? or is there any third party program that could forcibly remove it from my PC, whether it wants to come off or not?

I really hope theres a solution to my problem out there, as I want to get rid of it once and for all,

    Cheers

Couldnt you just go into add and remove programs and uninstall it from there?

Any norton products can be a real pain to remove, go to the link, have a look at step 2 were it will give the option to run a tool to remove norton"RUN IT NOW".

Would not hurt to run it a few times to make sure all that norton crap is out, are you sure you dont have a administrators account

That is exactly the prblem, I do that and it says I need to be logged in as a supervisor. it does this on all accounts, even admin accounts.

Thanks for the link DFW, will take a look at it now :)

Btw DFW i did mean supervisor lol, as in Norton Security only the supervisor can change the settings (the supervisor must also be an administrator).

And no luck with the norton run it now. I had to run it from IE. My old IE was not connecting for some reason (possibly a virus I had a while back), so I downloaded the latest IE7. now all this does when I open it is appear on a blank page briefly then shut down. I even tried the Firefox IE tab extension, but I need to enable ActiveX controls in order to run...what do you suggest?

Uninstall IE 7 beta, that will allow you to use your current windows IE, IE7 is probably not configured to work with the norton removal tool, or allow active x in firefox for this task only, there is a second way to get norton off with removing in safe mode, then editing the registry, but try this way again first if poss...
