I accidentally clicked on the trial version that camewith the computer (15 day trial) it erased my Norton that I had. (good for 1 year). I have tried to restore the computer 3 times to the point before this. It states " an unspecified error has occured." . I am traveling so don't have the Norton disk with me. What should I do. Help!!

Click Start.

Click Control Panel.

Click "Programs and Features."

Tell me what's installed as far as "Norton products" go.

----------------------------------------------------------------

And as a bit of a side-note, big-name antivirus programs like Norton, McAfee, etc., are pretty big resource hogs. I would suggest uninstalling Norton entirely and running a free antivirus program.

If you're interested in doing so, just follow these directions:

Download and launch the Norton Removal Tool.

Once it is finished, reboot your system.

Now download and install one of the following (free) antivirus programs:

Microsoft Security Essentials
Avast! Antivirus

I've used both (currently running Microsoft Security Essentials), and they work great. They're light, powerful, and best of all, free.

I checked the programs and features it only shows Norton Internet Security symantec corp. 1-19-2011 which is when I accidentally clicked the trial. Why it would eliminate my already existing, updated and current Norton Security, I don't understand.
Thanks

I really don't know why it would remove the other Norton installation. I can only assume that it had to uninstall Norton in order to install it, and now you're stuck with the trial. How long are you traveling for? If you want, you can just keep the trial until you can get your hands on the CD again.

Otherwise, I would say go with my "side-note" suggestion.
