Norton Woes

I recently installed Norton Antivirus 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2007 on my AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 Processor, which works on an Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard with 1GB DDR2 RAM. I also installed a Floppy Drive to aid in the first boost, etc. Otherwise, the FD remains unused.

Ever since NAV 2007 was installed, the FD keeps blinking every 5-10 seconds and makes this strange buzzing noise (quite like a cell phone on vib mode). I hate the noise and am worried if any damage is being done to the PC. Also, evry few minutes or so, there is a popup in the lower right-hand corner of the monitor from NAV - "A recent attempt to attack your computer was blocked."

Please:

1) Advise if the whirring, buzzing FD is doing any damage to my system.
2) How do I remove the FD/the buzzing part from the constant scanning/future scans.
3) What does the message mean and should I be worried at all.

Many thanks.
