    hi guys,

we moved our mail from exchange to hosted gmail
everything has been fine, except we have noticed that there is some mail we are not receiving from some people
    (4 or 5 addresses)

Gmail say there is no problem, and that the problem is from the senders end

    i found this article

    http://serverfault.com/questions/390694/not-receiving-mails-from-some-senders-due-to-dns-config

and have followed it...but this has not resolved the problem

has anybody got any idea where i can start to resolve this problem

    thanks
    pk

    [email protected]

    Subject: 12-08-09 10:30 Test

This message hasn't been delivered yet. Delivery will continue to be attempted.

    -----------------------------

is there a way of testing from one address to another (tracing the path) i tried a mail tester
but both addresses come up as alive and working

    very strange

    thanks for your reply

Sounds like it is not even leaving their mail server but would need to see the whole mail header to see what is going on.

after sending a mail to the problematic address we get a response

    [email protected]
    #< #4.4.1 X-Postfix; connect to 83.71.23.215[83.71.23.215]:25: Connection refused> #SMTP#

83.71.23.215 is our old exchange servers address (we host our mail with Gmail now....why is it trying to contact the old server?

i have looked at all the DNS records at my hosting company

there were CNAME and A records that were pointing to this address which i have disabled/deleted according to a fix regarding gmail about this particular problem.

why would it still be looking to this address to send mail...is this an issue on the other side?

    thanks

What is the correct spelling of the domain name in question ? campion.ie or campions.ie ? I could see two different spellings used in your post. Or is it a typo by the sender ?

There are two things you can check to be sure everything is fine at your end:
    1) intodns.com (does a dns check)
    2) mxtoolbox.com (does a smtp check)

You can ask the admin of sender's domain to do a DNS and MX lookup of your domain and send the output. That will be done by hosting provider or sys admin who has access to the server. Compare that output with the results that you get from the sites above. The MX record should point to gmail on all the results.

I assume that it has been atleast 2 to 3 days after you switched to Gmail.

A server can't provide information for data it never receives. All you have is the header info from the returned message. You're asking us why your old server IP is listed. That's exactly what you need to ask of the person / company / etc. that set up the new hosting.

yes hewee i also used tools that were suggested to me earlier in this post...looked the same as yours all ticks in green

DH you said " That's exactly what you need to ask of the person / company / etc. that set up the new hosting."

i actually did the transfer over to GMAIL from the existing hosting company

we used to have an in house exchange server, but then ditched it and went for gmail hosting

i followed Gmails instructions to a tee...and then read the article about CNAME and A records pointing to old ip addresses
i have since disabled and then deleted those records. so all thats in my DNS records are the mx records pointing to gmail.

is it possible that the clients im not getting mail are using exchange, and according to their exchange server campion.ie is still at the old ip address, and tries to send there?

This is very frustrating as i cant determine where the problem is, and who to contact to fix it?

will resetting up the dns records from scratch help?

i will try anything at this stage

thanks for all your help lads!!!
