    Hardware:
    PC: HP Pavilion dv7
Drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7581S ATA Device
    Media: Memorex DVD+R DL

    Software:
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Programs: DVDfab 6, AVS Video Converter 6, imgburn, Alcohol 120%, Windows DVD Maker

Problem: No matter which program I'm in (including "Computer") it keeps telling me there's nothing in the drive. Right on the side on my DVD drive it has a symbol saying it reads and writes DVD+R DL. I get the same result with all of the above programs. All of my drivers are up to date. It recognized a DVD+R DL disc one time, but when I tried to burn to it, DVDfab gave me an "error 122" message almost immediately after it started burning. That's the only time it has recognized a DL disc.

Ok, I ran the program you suggested. I got the exact same result from that program; "There is no disc in the drive, or the disc type is not supported." It then rattles off a list of disc types that my drive supports, which includes DVD+R DL...

Your drive may well be dead.
Uninstall it in Device Manager and reboot to reinstall.
Can you burn CDs, or play other media?

Yes. It works fine with all other media I've tried. (CD, CD-R, CD+R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD+R, PSX)

Edit: I'll try re-installing it, and post the results,

Run the Nero Info tool to verify what media the drive supports.

You could try another brand of DVD+R DL media, they are not all created equally. There are different dye strategies used from one manufacturer to another.

Yeah... that's what I've read. I was really hoping it was a software thing. Kinda pisses me off if I wasted my money on those DL discs. Well, when I get some other discs, I'll post the results.

Another thing you could also try is see if there is a firmware update for your burner. Sometimes an an updated firmware can mean more or better media recognition.
