    Hey guys,
I've noticed lately that my computer has been acting a little wierd. There have been a few problems with typing but they have subsided a little and my internet explorer has nearly quit working. I have tried to find the cause of these and other problems but i can't. Here is my HJT log. If anyone notices anything suspicious please let me know. Thanks.

Run Hijack This and click Open the Misc Tools section.
Click Open Uninstall Manager > Save list and save the log to your Desktop.
A list of programs will open in Notepad. Post the contents of this log.

    I removed:
    PartyPoker
    Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
    Viewpoint Toolbar V35 (Remove Only)

but when i tried to remove:
    My Way Search Assistant

I got a RUNDLL message that said:
    Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\MyWaySSrchAsDe\1.bin\desrcas.dll
The specified module could not be found.

And the same thing basically happened for: Need2Find Bar

That's okay, we can remove those later using another method.

Download the trial version of Ewido Anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. When the trial period expires, it becomes freeware with reduced functions but still worth keeping.

    • Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine"
    • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close Ewido Anti-Spyware, DO NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in Safe Mode.

    • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode now. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
    • Launch Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    • Ewido will now begin the scanning process. Be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    • Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Run ActiveScan online virus scan: here

When the scan is finished, save the results from the scan!

Come back here and post a new Hijack This log along with the logs from the Ewido and Panda scans.

    Yes that's fine

    Rescan with Hijack This.
Close all browser windows except Hijack This.
Put a check mark beside these entries and click "Fix Checked".

BTW Do you know of any good tutorials on how to use HJT or is it just one of those things you get a feel for over time?

It seems to be better. I can't tell that it is acting up any more and yes if you could suggest any forums on HJT that would be great. I would also appreciate any other sites that you think might be educating. i appreciate your help and as always this site has been very helpful.

    You're welcome :)

    There is GeekU: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/If_you_would_like_to_join_Geek_U-t4817.html

    and

    Malware Removal U: http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=233

    Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

    Restart your computer.

Turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

You can mark your thread "Solved" from the Thread Tools drop down menu.

I appreciate the sites. If you don't mind me asking what is accomplished by turning off sys restore, shutting down then turning it back on? I know that sometimes viruses put themselves in the sys restore files and that way they still live even if you remove them. Is that why you turn off the restore and then restart to turn it back on?
