Hello. Everytime I start up my computer Notepad pops up with this script in it:
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

I have windows 10. Can someone please tell me how to get rid of this without using Internet Explorer? I'd be satisfied uninstalling Notepad to solve it since I have Notepad ++ to solve this problem (actually I'd like that).

Hi, this is an old issue, happened back in XP days. Typically it is an errant desktop.ini file (opens in notepad).

This file is hidden by default so first go to folder options "view" and put a check in "show hidden files and folders" , don't forget to undo this when finished.

Next press the win + r keys together in the run dialogue box copy paste:-

shell:common startup (press enter)

If dektop ,ini appears open it (select "open", it's contents open in notepad). If they are your problem text then right click on desktop.ini and select delete. Windows will recreate the file when needed, so it's fine to delete.

Thank you very much jenae. This caused me many hours of frustration to solve this problem. Your post was simple and it worked!
I didn't have this problem when I upgraded to my current Windows OS. It only arised when I was downloading text editors.
