At present i have a hotmail.co.uk account and use Outlook Mail to send and receive, is there a way that i can track my emails and know when they have been read?

Or alternatively change Outlook Mail to give me this facility without changing my email address.

the "read receipt" is not available in outlook.com
however, you can use with an email client program on your PC
use a program like thunderbird https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/

however , when the system sends a read receipt the recipient will be asked is they want to allow that receipt to be sent back to you - so you do not always get them back.
Also some programs like thunderbird can be set up to NEVER send a read receipt back to the recipient.

I use read receipts and probably get less than half back

I block all read receipt requests on my computers to stop being tracked by spammers or companies who insist on keep sending me unwanted junk messages about products that I have no interest in. I do not want a sender to know whether I have read the message or not. Many people block them for privacy reasons

Try ReadNotify or DidTheyReadIt. They work for all webmail and email clients, regardless of their privacy settings. I have tried the first one and know it works quite well, but I don't know about the latter. If someone tells you he has never received your email message, you'll know if he's lying... I was really tired of not knowing. People have a bad tendency of not replying to emails.

As for emails from spammers, I simply never open them...

    Thanks for your reply.
Is there a free alternative to these?

I don't believe so. The service is not that expensive and you can cancel at any time.
