Once again it is time to remember. Wear a poppy with pride and gratitude.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Umm, I think Nov 11 is a more universal date for remembrance, not celebration.

I guess for some nothing is sacred.

I personally see it as a day to remember (having heard many stories from a great grandfather that fought at Vimy Ridge) but I see nothing wrong with someone choosing to celebrate the lives of those who gave theirs so.

This is the part of a poem recited during RCL ceremonies. I find it moving:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Hey Johnnycakes, you can celebrate it by drinking some Jarhead Red - made by Marines for Marines :)
