    Hi All

Last night I noticed I could not get updates from M$(when I scan it stays at 0%) see thread here http://forums.techguy.org/t223845.html

I decided to reformat and restore to factory specs and have done that now.

Problem is I still can't get updates and now I need all of them most of all the critical ones and security patches

Can some PLEASE HELP ME as I am not all that computer literate and have no idea what to do. I have used the restore disk a couple of times before and had no problems getting these important updates and getting the thing up and running( its running now but i need the updates to protect this thing

Once I get the updates i can get the avg anti-virus and other tools back but didn't want to waste time in case i had to restore again (I have tried twice but no luck)

    PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP

The alternative, and probably a good one if you restore again, is to click the "Personalize" button on the left at Windows Update. Choose to have the Windows Catalog shown. Then, click on the Windows Catalog button and choose your OS to see a list of all the updates. Download the ones you want and save them for future use after installing them.

It doesn't scan for the catalog. It just lists the updates and you can download them.

On the left under Other Options, is the Personalize option. Choose that and then choose to show the catalog of updates.

That may allow you to use the auto update after you install it.
