I been using Norton SW 2005 for the last year , the subscription has expired and I was thinkink about using a freeware anti virus. I have heard and read some bad things about NSW .. if I disable the NSW virus protection will other anti-virus programs have problems or conclicts with NSW just being on the system and which part of the NSW is the big resource hog? Should I just remove the NSW and be done with it.. I've heard its a pain to remove it.

    XP Pro sp2
    1.3 AMD w/512 DDRAM

    Thanks for any input

Nothing is a pain to remove if you know how to remove it properly. If you want a free anti virus, i would consider looking in the Antivirus section (not Online AV) in my signature. I can list a few more below. (Links are direct download)

    Free Antivirus

    AntiVir

    AVG Free 7.1

    AVAST! Antivirus 4.

    BITDefender 8

    Free AntiSpyware

Windows Defender. (Not a direct link)

    Spybot S&D

    AD-Aware SE Personal.

    Spyware Guard 2.2

    Spyware Blaster 3.5.1

    Trial Antispyware/Antivirus.

    Ewido! Antispyware/AntiVirus 30 Day Trial.

McAfee Virus Scan 30 Day Trial (Recommended) (Not a direct download)

McAfee Antispyware 30 Day Trial. (Recommended) (Not a direct download)

    Hope all this helps :)

Can you just remove it via add/remove?

Whats these "tracers" you speak of?

    Remove it from Add/Remove.
Boot into safe mode and delete the files from C:\Program Files.
Also do a search for anything related, and delete anything found.
Delete your Temporary Internet Files, TEMP Files (Run > %temp%), delete your cookies and you should be ok.
