While surfing the net a pop-up box appeared and, without
my knowledge, set the IE home page to another website. The
next time I booted into NT I got the message "file sys.reg
cannot be imported etc..". I deleted the registry entry
where its told to run this program and deleted the file. I
no longer get the message BUT when I boot into NT the last
thing that happens is that open file dialogue box (from my
computer?) appears and stays on the screen as if its
waiting for me to select a file. HELP!! Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to TSG!

It appears that you encountered a virus, worm or spyware while surfing. What Anti-Virus are you running? You can run scan from the web from housecall.trendmicro.com if you don't have up-to-date virus definitions. Adaware and spybot can search for and remove spyware programs. You can run a system scan with hijackthis and either look through yourself, or post the results here for the real gurus to look at to see what may cause your problem.

BTW, have you installed most of the security patches from MS?

    Hope this helps!
