NTLDR is missing and I went the the mircosoft website and they told me to make a floppy and I did and when it boots up to windows xp but there are no desktop icon and I can't get to the hard drive unless I ctrl+alt+del and pull up the task master. Its a toshiba portege 3480CT laptop with a usb floppy drive and usb cdrom and won't boot up to windows xp without the a bootable disk for an NTFS
You'll need to get to a command prompt using that boot floppy or if you can use your XP CD to boot up, you might be able to use the first of the Repair options to copy a new NTLDR from the C:\i386 directory. More likely, though, that you can boot with the floppy, put the CD in the drawer and, where D:\ is the CD drive, type the following:-
That should have reinstated NTLDR to its proper place.
