this is quite odd. most of the arrows in scroll bars in windows explorer and other programs have been replaced with numbers, and the same has happened to the minimize, resize, and close buttons of each window. also, some check mark boxes are quite screwed up as well. here is a screen shot that shows a lot of examples in one window. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

that may be correct, where can i download it? and what could have happened in the course of normal computer use (checking scores on the internet, word processing, ect.) that could have caused this? also, this computer has norton internet security with virus scan, which is upgraded weekly, and has kept up on the windows updates?

i just checked it, and the marlette file is in the fonts folder. what else do i have to do?

I dunno that the font is to blame.
The up and down scroll buttons of the left pane
are also produced by that font, they are ok.
The characters shown are Marlette font characters,
but the wrong ones.

So i am wondering if windows explorer has a problem.

Sometimes there is a repair option for I.E. in Add/Remove,
it might be worth running this option if its there,
because Win Explorer and Int explorer share a lot of stuff.

There is a 'Repair fonts' facility in Tweakui,
although i think your fonts are probably ok.

Watching with interest, someone may recognise this problem.

Cheers, John :)
