I would definitely download the latest drivers (if you haven't already). You also might want to check your BIOS and make sure it is not setting your AGP port or video card to 16 MB.

    Hope this helps,

After making sure you have the latest driver: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

See what it show in DXDIAG: (Start -> Run -> type DXDIAG)

I don't think it will actually have much effect if the system is working properly. For gaming the card is next to useless anyway and for everyday tasks its more then enough.

    well,...
in looking a various sites it seems there are 3 components to a graphics card determing price/performance...:
the chip..(chipset.?) which can be more or less advanced/expensive
    ..(geoforce->quadro or radeon->fire gl)
    the ram (32 64 128 256 ect..)
    and the driver..(hi-tech...lo-tech...?)
    ***
it seem these can be matched in varying ways to create different cards..(less chip, more ram, more fan, less driver...ect)
or (more chip, less ram, less fan, more driver...ect)...
    ***
and then i see cards can bee modded w/ drivers to become other cards...hmm...
    ***
and then i see where this may be an interplay between engineering and marketing...
not knowing anything about it,...with always a new card coming out, one wonders where the old cards go to die...?
..or more to the point, can one buy a less expensive quadro or geoforce, for instance,..with the intent of re-drivering it to something that may perform in another market niche...?
    ****
this was my question...trip...ur previous post seems to address this.
    ****
also i had ordered memory ((3)256), which has just come in...i'll pop those in and let u know if there's a worthwile improvement..
    **
there is a geoforce 128(dual vga) and a quadro 64(dual vga) both selling about same price($80)...they look the same in pics..
is it a different chip..(quadro better..?)
can they be modded.. what will they do..?
i saw that u should look for the 256 BIT chip,...i think that's more $...??
    anyway, thanks
    mac

i've had the same feeling about autocad...it's really simple stuff on screen...just a bunch of lines...there's just a LOT of them..
-be back in a minute w/ the new ram..
    ***
(with new driver only(above)there is definite improvement...could there have been a conflict w/ mouse diver...?
it seemed to screw up w/ sp update...?)
    ***
also still showing 16mg on what i thought was 32mg card...?

If you're doing CAD work you should get a Quadro card, they're aimed towards that (as opposed to gaming) although they can still run games fine. They have more accurate geometry, which is good for wireframe models but pointless for Doom 3.

I too would go with a Quadro card as it seems it would help you. The 256 bit cards are likely to be more expensive but they perform better and in many cases use a newer GPU, which should be more up to date, faster, and more accurate.
