    Hi.... I could really use some help... Don't know if I have a malware, or hardware issue

    I read through some threads, downloaded the most commonly suggested apps, and used some of them.... Please review the steps I took, and the Hijack This log, and advise... thank you....

    Machine Specs:
    ------------------------------
    Thinkpad T60p 2007-94U, XP Pro (up-to-date),3 gigs RAM, 100gig drive (5 partitions)
    * OS and Apps on C:\
    * Every* temp/tmp variable I can think of set to F:\
    * Scans were just on C: and F: partitions....
    * Typically load Sygate Pro, Nod32, AVG or (more recently) Spyware Doctor, Network Magic, and a few utils

    Symptoms:
    -------------------------------
    * extremely* slow boots, (even with non critical services and with my usual "load at boot" apps turned off.... It can take 5-6 minutes, (but it's inconsistent) sometimes the boot fails completely... or the Explorer Shell fails to load properly.... requiring a reboot.... sometimes it's fine... but on a 2.16ghz core duo... Even when it works, It seems to take waaaaaaay too long to boot to usable....
    * some apps are having problems remembering who they are, and where everything they need is;
    * home network connectivity issues, (remote desktop failures, shared drives can't be accessed, etc);

    Note:
    ---------------------------------
    (A) This machine choked on the recent MS Hotfix from a few days ago.... Wouldn't install the .net framework v2 security update.... I had to turn off the firewall to even download the files, uninstall all .net frame v.1.1 & v.2 and reinstall... I stopped at .net 2 SP1 ...
    (B) two other computers ate the hotfix just fine....

    ---------------------------------
    Spyware scan notes: (scans were run in "normal" not "safe" mode); these are the results and the actions I've taken so far... I updated all the scanners definitions before running them.
    ---------------------------------

    "Spyware Detector" (deep scan)

    (1) P2P.Spyware-Secure
    c:\system volume information\_restore{5d527826-05bd-4a83-8416-28acdda14001}\rp334\a0105923.dll#@#44DB2E00E4F8FB7237F6BB4F27B579D
    ---- ACTION: I deleted all restore points

    (2) Backdoor.GrayBird located in
    c:\program files\common files\autodesk shared\service\adskscsrv.exe
    c:\program files\common files\autodesk shared\service\adsknetsrv.exe#@#DCBAAE3CCCA28F934AB8C90C8F91D089
    c:\program files\common files\autodesk shared\service\adskscsrv.exe#@#EA2D28BBE98256654397CD1F6EAEBDD8
    c:\program files\common files\autodesk shared\service\adskscsrv.exe

    This concern me a lot.... my autodesk apps have been acting funny the last few days.... I suspect this exe is an intrinsic part of the autodesk license service.. but... (a) the report worries me, and (b) this was the only scanner that had an issue with it... none of the others (in normal or safe mode) flagged it

    (3) Downloader.Small
    Dozens of instances in windows temp files... I have no idea what this is or wher it came from
    -------ACTION: Deleted all temp, bak, log dmp etc files older than 7 days... then went into "safe mode" and used CrapCleaner

    (4) GenKeylogger.rocketdock
    I believe this to be a "false positive"... again, spyware Detector was the only scanner that had an issue with the RocketDock

    (5) GenKeylogger.Actual Window Manager
    Again... I suspect this is "False Positive", but not sure.... Actual Window Manager has been acting completely dysfunctional as of today.... although it's active, it's not adding the window tools to the titlebar as it should... they are missing... but again, this was the only scanner (in safe or normal mode) that flagged it.... But Actual Window Manager appears to be broken

    Personally... given the following results from other spyware/Trojan apps.... I think Spyware Detector has funky heuristics....

    =================================================
    PC Tools, "Spyware Doctor" , with every heuristic scanner it has turned on.

    Two (2) tracking cookies.... that's it.... **NONE of items Spyware Detector flagged were reported**

    =================================================
    AdAware SE

    Found a couple of tracking cookies for IE -deleted

    =================================================
    Spybot Search and Destroy

    Found a couple tracking cookies for Firefox --deleted

    =================================================
    AVG Anti-Spyware found

    Trojan.Small
    Backdoor.Rizo.b --both in System Volume Info\_restore --deleted all restore points

    =================================================
    DROPPED INTO SAFE MODE
    =================================================

    Trojan Hunter
    ------------------------------------------------
    finds **nothing**

    Ran ATF.... Emptied *everything*
    ------------------------------------------
    Ran Dr.Web --it says "no virus"
    ------------------------------------------
    ComboFix looked a little scary... so I decided to wait till after you guys looked at the Hijack log to do anything
    -------------------------------------------
    CrapCleaner... completely let it do it's thing.... minus Firefox cookies I recognized
    -------------------------------------------
    ran a chkdsk on c: when I rebooted into normal....
    --------------------------------------------
    Ran a RAXCO "PerfectDisk 8" defrag.... one thing I noticed is the amount of boot files that I'm used to seeing PD.8 tag and place at the front of the line was reduced by at least 95%.... a significant reduction, and no changes made by me re: what loads

    So.... That was my night.... now it's time to grab some sleep....

    I'm looking forward to your review of the Hijack log

    Thanks in advance.... this is a GREAT forum, and totally worth supporting....

    thanks again, and take care

    Well.... I think I got too happy, too fast, too late at night... and hosed myself

    Now, processes are getting stuck, artifacts are locked into the taskbar, I'm losing the start menu completely, and freezing.... goody.... definitely made things worse... my bad for thinking I could read and understand... when will I learn....?

    Glad I have a fresh image to reload, because I really created a mess.... machine has totally locked up on me three times since I last posted....

    FWIW... network connection is great... boot is faster, apps loading OK, but the shell itself seems to be bunged up pretty bad.

    So, I'll wait for a response, re-image, and start all over... Fortunately, the Hijack logs were before I started playing with all the other tools I saw recommended....

    Re imaging C:\ Hopefully I'll get the shell working again

    Might as well start over.... at least the tmp files are cleaned out, and I'll dump the restore points.... run Hijack and post.... and wait to hear suggestions from someone smarter than me
