    Hello,

I have been having problems with outlook express for some time now. I am running win 2k and the problem is that the programme randomly hangs, it always starts up but usually hangs when downloading email. I have mcaffee vshield, but closing it makes no difference. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I have been having a browse through some of the other posts here and thought that it might be wise to run adaware (which returned about 217 items!) Then I ran Hijackthis, the log file of which is posted below:

    Hi willwalk

First, go to Add/Remove and remove New.Net from your system.

    Reboot.

Then, you can have HJT remove this item:

    O1 - Hosts: 172.19.200.11 lionsrv2

....check the entry in HJT, close your browser, click fix, and reboot.

    These two entries:

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{8EDB2723-9234-4B43-8FD4-D478D2235880}: NameServer = 195.92.195.95

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F2ED73DA-526E-4AD4-BF82-9D3CFA4B70E1}: NameServer = 195.92.195.95

...do you recognize the IP as either your ISP or network/router?

    Leave them if you do.

    :)

    Hi

Thanks for that, but I access a remote server from my pc, through an ISDN connection and the 'O1 - Hosts: 172.19.200.11 lionsrv2' is, I believe, a reference to this. (172.19.200.11 being the ip for that server.)
The 195.92.195.95 is the IP address for the router for this connection.
New.net is does not appear in add/remove programs and so I have installed and ran adaware. This picks up quite a few references to it and I have now removed them. No joy with regard to the performance of OE6, which is still hanging on a regular basis.

    Any other ideas?

willwalk, good deal on recognizing those entries as legitimate and not deleting them. (y)

Also, keep AdAawre updated and check your system regularly.

Not much to offer on the OE hanging, sorry. :(

Are you current with MS updates? You don't have a lot of messages in OE, do you?

I have installed and ran suggested apps and deleted old mails, and it seems to be running far better now, hasn't crashed for at least half an hour which is unheard of. So thanks for the help :)
