    Hi bbsnooks

    Fancy seeing you here ;)

    With all windows closed.
    Start > Run
    Key in:
    "C:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /reg

Verify this is the path that msimn.exe is located and be sure to include the quotes.

    Then open Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > General tab,
and verify Outlook Express is your default messaging program at the bottom of the page.

Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab
verify Outlook Express is showing in the E-mail window.

Let us know if this works or not.

You know I always forget that part...

There are no fireworks or bands playing when you register Outlook Express.

Sorry that is not part of the package ;)

    Enjoy your visit!

    With all programs closed.

    Open
My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types tab

    Under Registered File Types
    You will see two columns:
    Extensions and File Types

    Looking under the Extensions column,
Scroll down and select the EML extension.
It should show Outlook Express Mail Message as the File type.

    Click on the Change button.

An Open With window will pop up where you can select the program that should be associated with Outlook Express .eml messages.
At the top Outlook Express should be showing under Recommended Programs.
If not, scroll down the list and select Outlook Express.
    OK, Apply, Close.

Open Outlook Express and send an email to test.

    ______________________________________________________________

What extension should your photos have?

    Using the same method above,
This time locate and click on your Picture program's (Microsoft Picture It Photo 2002)? extension
click Change and select the Picture program that should be associated with that extension.
    OK, Apply, Close.

Check your picture extensions to see if they were reassociated with the correct file type extension.
If not, Refresh the view by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard.

You may need to reboot for the changes to take effect.

    Let us know what happens.

This is for a machine running Windows 98?

How many computers, operating systems are you currently working on? LOL!

Either click on the My Computer icon to open My Computer and using the Tool Bar Menus, not a folder...
Tools > Folder Options > File Types tab

Or Check under Tools menu on the Tool Bar in the Control Panel

LOL! bbsnooks, you are too funny!

    Almost forgot, <smacks forehead> ;)

(Sorry, I do not have a Windows 98 machine to post a screenshot from.)

Check under the View menu for Folder Options.

At this rate, I will have you looking into next week!

    Let me know what happens.

Have you checked out Bob Cerelli's link?

    bbsnooks,

What were the results of those registry edits MS recommends for this exact problem?

Hello Bob and Mr Fielder.. I went to the link bob recomended and downloaded the "fix." and then went to the registry..
"2. Expand the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\SharedDLLs
    3. Delete the following DWORD Value:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Picture it! PhotoPub\MHPMRG.EXE"

and the file they said to look for wasnt there.. ..

I would be willing to remove the program .. If I could save the photo's.. that are associated with the program..

infact.. < not my idea or fault here.. > there are several copies of photo editors on this over loaded computer.. & there are lots of duplicate photos.. due to novice users of digital photo camera software .. not knowing how or where to store photo's.. I think we need to get an external harddrive.. and export all doc and files.. then reinstall the Os and then put files back on.. but till then... -- the mail folder is still wanting to open and INSTALL the photo.. program.. It appears that the next recomendation on that page ... says to remove the software from the computer.. is that what you read??
