I've just bought a new PC & am running Windows 7. I want to re-install Microsoft Office 2000 (Professional) but have been advised that there may be compatability problems with Outlook. I still want to handle and store emails on my PC (rather than use a web-based system) & someone suggested not installing Outlook but using a Mozilla Software Package instead. Can anyone offer some advice?

Your thread is marked "Solved." I don't think you'll get many replies unless you "unsolve" it.

Sorry, I can't offer any specific advice. I have read that Office 2003 will work with Win 7, but have never seen anything about Office 2000.

I'm in a similar situation as you (though I'm only 65 and thus not elderly lol). Been looking for an e-mail program since upgrading my laptop to Win 7. I currently use Windows Live Mail 2012 but am having some issues with it. Have read mixed reviews about Mozilla Thunderbird so am reluctant to try it.

Outlook 2000 does have issues on Windows 7, the whole package is considered incompatible but can be made to work. But Office 2000 is pretty ancient. I'd suggest LibreOffice as a replacement for Word and Excel: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/

And either the Windows Live Mail client or Thunderbird for email.

    Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

Or you can purchase a newer Office 2010 or 2013 package.
