I have a WinXP machine that is running Office 2000 Small Business. I am getting an error whenever I try and send/receive e-mail. The hex code is always the same:

    0x8004210A
    0x8004210B
    0x800CCC0B

When I look at the Details of the SMTP/POP3 transaction, I can see that Outlook is trying to complete at least 20-25 tasks - not 2, sending and receiving. This is very strange.

I have tried the hotfix from MS and I have followed their instructions for repairing this problem "to a tee". I have also found on other forums other users comlaining of this problem.

You can find the MS Knowled Base Article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=827349.

In addition to running the suggested updates, I have also tried repairing and uninstalling and reinstalling Office XP Small Business. This did not help.

A reboot tends to be affective, but only for about 5 minutes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had this problem so many times in the past, tried all hotfixes and service packs etc. Even with the mail server on the same subnet as the computer on a Sunday with no traffic, still got errors about sending and even receiving. Switched to Outlook2000 and had no problems at all. Same exact profile setup.

Unable to solve problem despite following all advice. Upgraded to Outlook 2003. Problem solved.
    Microsoft wins again!
