I recently installed Windows 7 and re-installed MS Office 2007 small business. Excel now hangs when I format text. Anyone know what the problem is?

I've never heard of this exact problem happening before. Please provide more details about your problem (does it hang when you apply ANY kind of formatting, or only certain kinds, such as...? How long does it hang? Does it happen EVERY time? Do you have to kill your Excel process? etc).

It's possible that your book.xlt file is corrupted. Make sure that Office is completely up-to-date (run Microsoft [not Windows] update, check office's version number (Office button > Resources) and update if necessary.

Also, try Office's repair functions:

On-demand detect and repair

To run the Detect and Repair feature in your 2007 Office programs, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation. For 2007 Office programs that use menus

  1. Start the 2007 Office program.
  2. On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Click Run Diagnostics.
  5. If a problem is identified, Office Diagnostics may offer to run the repair process.
For 2007 Office programs that use the Ribbon

  1. Start the 2007 Office program.
  2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click program_name Options.
  3. In the program_name Options dialog box, click Resources, and then click Diagnose next to office diagnostics.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Click Run Diagnostics.
  6. If a problem is identified, Office Diagnostics may offer to run the repair process.

Hi,

You may also repair Excel (Office 2007) by going to 'Programs and Features' option in 'Control Panel'.

All the best!
