Office 2010 Installation Error

Have been trying to install Office 2010 on this PC & keep getting the following error message "MS office Home & Student 2010 encountered an error during setup"
Tried a few of the solutions on the net like deleting all traces of previous office components, changing name of MS Help file etc. but nothing worked. This is a replacement PC & have deleted Office 2010 from my previous PC. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

You need to read the Setup log file for Office, usually in your Temp directory.

Thanks Peter

I checked the log file which showed the following:

"Error attaching to OSE, error 0x00000000

Stopping running ose

SystemRestore : Attempting to cancelling System-Restore-Point for Product [Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010] (with RestorePointType [0, Installed]).

SystemRestore : Successfully cancelled System-Restore-Point for Product [Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010] (with RestorePointType [0, Installed]).

Showing completion dialog.

Reboot requested if needed.

No reboot is needed.

Catalyst execution finished: 05/23/2020 17:58:24. Return code: 1603.

PERF: TickCount=1433796 Name=RunSetup Description=End function"

Any ideas how to get over the OSE problem?

I checked services.msc & found that the Office Source Engine was no longer there. I must have deleted it in my frustration (& ignorance!) after checking online forums which suggested that all traces of Office must be deleted before trying to install Office again. Is there a way of re-establishing the registry entry or would a registry cleaner fix that?

Normally, you would have to reinstall Office to re-instate the OSE service.

The files for OSE should be in c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Source Engine\OSE.EXE"

Here is the registry settings for OSE service:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"DisplayName"="Office Source Engine"
"Description"="Saves installation files used for updates and repairs and is required for the downloading of Setup updates and Watson error reports."

Save above as reg file and import, then reboot PC.
